Questionnaire 2: Questions 1-6 Summary
I sent the questionnaires
through Outcome to members
and received 29.
Most of
the people who responded were members and there
was a fair spread of age ranges, with the middle age group being most
popular. There was
a very heavy bias
towards homosexual and male, and only a few females responded
– this may show
something interesting about how open women feel they can be about this
issue,
or that developments in Methodism are mainly focussed on the gay man. There were very few
bisexuals, and no
transsexuals, although it was not expected that any transsexuals would
respond,
as the method used to send them out would generally not have any on its
mailing
list. There were
two heterosexuals,
whose results have been included, as they would have been members of
the
Outcome group, and sympathetic of its aims, which is the group for gay
and
lesbian people in Methodism
There
were various positions held, from
Superintendent Ministers to Stewards and other roles involved in the
life of
the church.
There
were a wide range of answers given on how open
people were able to be about their sexuality, very few were completely
open
(11%), and 15% said nobody knew. The
rest fell in the middle. Some
were open
to only those who enquired and commented that few ever do, and several
were
selective (26%).
