Pilgrimage of Faith

Questionnaire 2: Question 12 Summary

Is there anything else you would like to share concerning your sexuality and the Methodist Church?
(please write any)

There were many other thoughts written.  Some commented that sexuality was irrelevant to their ministry but it is a bar to others.  Some had given up caring about the institutional church at all and more about individuals.

Some commented that the pilgrimage had not gone anywhere, whilst others felt that the Methodist Church was the most accepting of all denominations and had at least started but had a long way to go; some felt it was the one that could go the furthest.

Some people expressed that it needed to be promoted a lot more locally, and one felt good when it was mentioned, but never felt that non-heterosexual people were wholly accepted.

Many felt there was a definite need to continue and educate people, especially as many still associated homosexuality with paedophilia.

One person just expressed ‘please allow me to be myself’ whilst another said that a true exploration of their ministry had been prevented due to the Derby Resolutions.  One person asked when the church will recognise it needs to lead on justice issues rather than follow society.
