Pilgrimage of Faith

Questionnaire 2: Question 8 - Unsure Responses

Do you think the 'Pilgrimage of Faith' has achieved anything to combat repression and discrimnation, to work for justice and human rights and to give dignity and worth to people whatever their sexuality?

‘In some places but not others – it’s patchy.  As a general rule, the smaller the congregation the less the topic is aired: the more enthusiastic the minister the more the debate.’

‘I am not sure it is understood within the local circuits.  As a gay minister I am vague about what it is about.’

Difficult to say “yes” or “no” as the Methodist church is made up of so many diverse communities. It seems likely that urban/city communities might be forced to tackle the issue - but rural/provincial Methodism, in my experience, doesn’t recognise the issue - or maybe even want to!’
