Pilgrimage of Faith

Sections Outline

Homosexuality and Methodism

This section outlines the history of homosexuality and the Methodist Church from the 1950s until the time of the research in early 2006.  It focuses on the official reports of the British Methodist Church, outlining the discussions and progress that lead towards calling a ‘Pilgrimage of Faith’, and where the official understanding had progressed to in 2005.

Research Method

This section briefly outlines the methods for my research and what first hand research I engaged in.

Questionnaire 1

This section provides the results and all the responses of the first questionnaire that was used.  For this questionnaire I took one circuit of Methodist Churches and asked as many people as possible to complete it.  I used this questionnaire to get a general sample and indication of the views and thoughts that people had within Methodism.

Questionnaire 2

This section provides the results and responses of the second questionnaire that was used.  This questionnaire was given to non-heterosexual people within Methodism.  This provides information and indication of experiences about how homosexual and heterosexual people feel within Methodism.

What Pilgrimage?

This section goes on to draw conclusions and assess, from the responses to the questionnaires, how successful, if at all, the ‘Pilgrimage of Faith’ has been in the Methodist Church.  I have then made some conclusions and hope that this indicates where the Methodist Church was when the research was conducted.  This then leads to some areas that need to be addressed and hopefully provides ways of moving forward.
